The aerial formations showcased during the Gala, co-designed by EHang Egret and the Gala’s production team and featuring the sky city and the iconic horse-head walls of Hui-style architecture, demonstrated the captivating fusion of “technology and culture” through light and imagery. By weaving Lunar New Year blessings into the performance, EHang Egret pioneered a new expression of integrating low-altitude technology with cultural storytelling. It also brought unmanned aircraft technology closer to the public, enhancing awareness and understanding of the emerging low-altitude economy, and further reinforced EHang Egret ’s leadership in the industry.
On February 3, 2026, witnessed by an official Guinness World Records™ adjudicator, expert and independent witnesses, and media representatives, the 22,580 GD4.0 drones took flight simultaneously. They lit up the night sky over Hefei with a breathtaking spectacle, celebrating the Chinese New Year with a brand-new world record. During the record attempt, the fleet formed a rich array of dynamic 3D animations. These included the designs later featured in the Gala, such as festive lanterns symbolizing the joy and brightness of the season and the iconic “horse-head walls” of Anhui’s traditional Hui-style architecture, perfectly integrating New Year greetings into the show and offering a unique low-altitude visual blessings for the Year of the Horse. A sci-fi inspired “time tunnel” sequence further illustrated boundless technological imagination, vividly portraying the vibrant ascent of a “city in the sky.” Prior to the official record attempt and Gala, EHang Egret had successfully conducted multiple performances in Hefei’s Luogang Park involving over 20,000 drones taking off simultaneously.

The GD4.0 drones used for this record-setting performance are EHang’s latest in-house developed UAV, designed for large-scale, high-precision coordinated aerial media services. With up to 45 minutes of flight time, centimeter-level positioning accuracy, robust performance in complex environments, and dynamic performance, the GD4.0 deeply integrates large-scale fleet management technology, precision navigation, and intelligent coordination. These capabilities enable the reliable execution of complex aerial formations by more than 20,000 drones, even under challenging low-temperature nighttime conditions. Supported by box-launch ability for rapid deployment and reduced manpower requirements, the GD4.0 significantly enhances operational efficiency. Its robust adaptability to various environments ensures both the safe, stable presentation of technology and art in the air and provides a solid innovative foundation for diverse scenarios including commercial events, large-scale shows, and aerial theater.
As a pioneer in commercial drone light shows, EHang Egret has delivered large-scale shows at major global events and previously set multiple Guinness World Records, establishing strong leadership in large-scale UAV coordination and creative aerial applications.
Setting this new Guinness World Record™ reflects EHang’s long-term commitment to technological innovation and serves as a large-scale, practical validation of its command-and-control capabilities. As a global pioneer in unmanned aircraft fleet command, dispatch, and management platforms, EHang’s technology—proven in orchestrating over 20,000 formation drones—is fully transferable to managing large-scale fleets for passenger transport, cargo delivery, firefighting, emergency response, and more. This lays a solid technical foundation for the future large-scale, high-density, urban commercial operation of aircraft like the EH216 series and VT35 series, supporting the continued commercialization of AAM and the low-altitude economy.
