EHang Advances in eVTOL Aerial Emergency Response, Partnering with Huantian International Air Rescue to Explore Innovative Air-Ground Integrated Aviation Rescue Solutions

Aviation emergency rescue is an important application of the low-altitude economy with significant social value. In June 2026, China’s State Council released the Plan for Modernizing the Emergency Response System During the 15th Five-Year Plan Period, which calls for building an aviation rescue network capable of reaching disaster-prone areas within one hour, improving aviation rescue bases, stations, and other infrastructure, strengthening airspace support for aviation rescue, and expanding related application scenarios.

As a technology enterprise with more than a decade of experience in pilotless eVTOL, EHang leverages the technical strengths of pilotless electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft — flexible takeoff and landing, rapid response and low-noise operation — to develop aerial rescue solutions adaptable to diverse environments including cities, islands and remote hard-to-reach areas. These solutions address the limitations of conventional aviation rescue in short-range urban transfer and support the development of the national one-hour aviation rescue network.

Powered by its two pilotless eVTOL models, the EH216‑S and VT35, alongside its proprietary command and dispatch platform, EHang is capable of undertaking missions such as point-to-point personnel transfer within cities, cross-regional transport over hundreds of kilometers, medical supply delivery and disaster emergency response. The EH216‑S is designed for short-range rescue transfer inside urban areas, while the VT35 serves longer-distance routes between cities and to islands. It complements helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft to deliver tiered rescue capacity covering short-range shuttle, regional rescue, intercity and cross-border transport. EHang has previously conducted domestic drills for medical supply and personnel transport, and validated the value of pilotless aircraft in medical scenarios through overseas initiatives including the EU U-SAVE project

To further push forward the rollout of the above aeromedical rescue model, EHang has signed a non-binding cooperation framework agreement with Huantian Sanjiu International Air Rescue Co., Ltd. (“Huantian International Air Rescue”) during the 9th Guangzhou Business Aviation Expo and the 2026 Aviation Medical Rescue Conference. Centered on medical emergency rescue needs, the two parties will explore the coordinated application of pilotless electric vertical take-off and landing (“eVTOL”) aircraft, helicopters and other aviation equipment alongside ground-based medical resources. Their cooperation will focus on assessing aircraft adaptation for medical rescue missions, digital dispatch and medical information coordination, personnel training, and potential application scenarios, to explore a tiered, integrated air-ground aeromedical rescue network.

Exploring a Tiered Rescue Model Across Multiple Aircraft Types

Huantian International Air Rescue has access to a range of rescue aircraft, including fixed-wing medical aircraft and rescue helicopters equipped with specialized onboard medical equipment, and has accumulated practical experience in aeromedical transport across multiple countries and regions.

Under the cooperation agreement, the two parties will explore a rescue model integrating eVTOL, helicopter and fixed-wing aircraft, taking into account patient condition, response time, aircraft capabilities, takeoff and landing conditions, and ground transfer arrangements. The aim is to explore layered rescue capabilities spanning short-range patient transfers, regional rescue, and intercity and cross-border transport. Potential scenarios include medical supplies transport, patient transfers where appropriate, disaster response, large-scale post-disaster disinfection and vector control using drones, and rescue services in areas with limited ground access.

EHang will leverage its EH216-S and VT35 pilotless eVTOL aircraft, together with its independently developed command and control platform, to explore coordinated applications with Huantian International Air Rescue. The parties intend to assess the suitability of EH216-S to support short-range point-to-point missions in urban areas and the suitability of VT35 to cover cross-regional routes in the 100-kilometer range, including intercity and island connections. The two eVTOL models are expected to complement Huantian International Air Rescue’s helicopters and fixed-wing air ambulances in a coordinated rescue system in the future.

The two parties will also assess and validate the feasibility of adapting pilotless passenger-carrying eVTOL aircraft for medical rescue missions, develop approaches to digital dispatch and medical information sharing, and conduct personnel training and joint exercises. They will also explore potential applications in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, Hainan and other regions.

Jia Chongyue, Head of Huantian International Air Rescue's Guangzhou Branch, commented, “Aeromedical transport places high demands on safety, response time and compliance with clinical protocols. Drawing on our experience in aeromedical transport and pre-hospital emergency care, we look forward to working with EHang to explore a tiered, multi-aircraft rescue model, expand short-range air transfer options in densely populated urban areas, and shorten medical response times. We also hope to contribute to the development of China’s one-hour aviation rescue network.”

Zhao Wang, Chief Operating Officer of EHang, stated, “With flexible takeoff and landing capabilities, low-noise operation and safety redundancy, eVTOL aircraft have the potential to offer new solutions for aeromedical rescue. EHang will continue to put safety first and make regulatory compliance a priority as we work with Huantian International Air Rescue on technical assessments and demonstration projects of tiered aeromedical rescue applications. We aim to bring pilotless technologies and professional rescue resources closer together while expanding pilotless aircraft applications across emergency response, firefighting, logistics and public services.”
